MINISTER MBALULA MUST IMMEDIATELY PLACE ACTING COMMISSION PHAHLANE ON SPECIAL LEAVE

Congress of the People is very much disturbed by the new and very damning allegations that are now in the public domain about the Acting National Police Commissioner Kgomotso Phahlane.

The damning allegations made by the Independent Police Investigation Directorate (IPID) in the court documents can't be taken lightly especially when it involves a person who is expected to uphold the law.

COPE is calling upon the Minister of Police Fikile Mbalula to place Phahlane on special leave till the court clears him from all these very serious allegations; and at no stage are we insinuating that he is guilty of any offence.

COPE further calls upon the justice system to prioritize this case so that we as the public get the truth as soon as possible. We believe this is not just an ordinary court case, but a case of national importance. Ends!
