SAPS IS FAILING TO PROTECT THE POOR FROM A CARTEL THAT STEALS FROM THEM.

  • March 17, 2017 | Pakes Dikgetsi

Congress of the People is happy that finally an investigation by the independent institutions like Amabhungane has revealed the truth around the criminal and greedy conduct of commercial players like CPS and Net1.

Since 2015 COPE has received over 1000 complaints from grant beneficiaries who complained about unknown and unauthorized deductions from their grants. We laid criminal charges with the SAPS  in at least 4 provinces but to date no progress on the investigations has been reported. The sheer incompetence of SAPS or their lack of interest to protect the meagre incomes of the poor is morally reprehensible and shocking. They have all the resources at their disposal to investigate crimes against the people but choose not to consider the matter and priority.

We congratulate Amabhungane and the media for diligently investigating crimes of greed and acts of corruption against people, especially the poor and vulnerable.

COPE has called for an urgent parliamentary inquiry into the conduct of the corrupt cartel that operates in the social security environment to steal from the poor. It's clear that this cartel is thriving because of Bathabile Dlamini’s incompetence or actives collusion.
